34-Year-Old Chinese Tennis Star Presents a Depressing Picture of Her Mental State as Homesickness Proves Overwhelming – ‘I’ve Tried All My Best But…’

Chinese tennis player, Zhang Shuai has one of the most resounding figures in the women’s circuit when it comes to doubles events. During her competitive tennis journey, she marked her triumphs at various women’s doubles events including the Australian Open and US Open. However, the 34-year-old player didn’t have the same success in the singles events as she faced a number of initial rounds defeats at Grand Slam events.

Even at the grass-court major event, the currently ranked world No. 36 player has been knocked out after her first-round defeat. Emphasizing her recent form on the WTA Tour, Shuai revealed how she is ‘deeply tired’ while overcoming various adversities in her journey.

The world No. 36 player was recently featured in a post-match press conference after her disappointing defeat against the Croatian tennis star, Donna Vekić. While talking about her poor run at the ongoing  Wimbledon Championship,  the Chinese tennis star brought to light her recent struggles with various issues including homesickness.

She said, “After my grandparents passed away, I started thinking about the meaning of life. I am 34. I’ve played tennis for 29 years. I’ve tried all my best, but everyone has a limit. I feel deeply tired, especially mentally. I miss Chinese food in China.”

Taking note of her situation, even her opponent, Donna Vekić was quite sympathetic as she dropped her reaction in the comments section.

The WTA player’s adversities might have had a major impact on her form during this season. Apart from the Wimbledon Championships, the Chinese tennis star also had a poor campaign at other major events.

Zhang Shuai’s run at other Grand Slam events

Even at the clay-court major Grand Slam event, the 34-year-old player was stunned by a lower-ranked player in the tournament. It was the Polish tennis player, Magdalena Fręch who outclassed Zhang Shuai’ in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, at the Rolland Garros.

Apart from this, she also had a decent campaign in Melbourne where she was knocked out of the tournament after her fourth-round match. The Czech tennis star, Karolína Plíšková thumped in straight sets of 6-0, 6-4 at the Australian Open.
