Venus Williams has been one of the most dominant tennis players of all time. She was an absolutely fierce competitor and has had an illustrious career, glittered by seven Grand Slam singles titles. Additionally, she teamed up with her younger sister to win 14 major doubles titles. Adding a golden lining to her legendary career is the fact that she also has four Olympic gold medals.

Venus turned professional in 1994 at the age of 14. In her very first appearance at the US Open in 1997, she finished as the runners-up, losing to Martina Hingis in the finals. Recently, she reacted to her incredible journey that year in an extremely entertaining video.

Venus Williams looks back upon her journey at the 1997 US Open

In the video, the elder Williams sister is watching and reacting to her US Open debut. On one of her points, she said, “Those were good hands.” After winning the point with a smash and looking fiercely across the net, she laughed and said, “That attitude! No wonder they hated me.”

Further, on another point, she said, “Is this match point? I don’t know.” It was her match-winning point in the semifinal. After the point, she jumped in joy as she reached her first major final. Reacting to her emotions that day, she added, “This is so cool to watch. No one’s more excited than Serena. Actually, it makes me a little teary.”

Moreover, she said, “I still absolutely react the exact same way now. I’m like this child I’d like to keep when I’m jumping, I’m jumping… My eyes got teary there to see that joy and I never look back, I look forward. I’m all about like what’s happening now and I’m not looking back but like wow, that was huge.”

Further, Alexis Ohanian, Serena’s husband and the co-founder of Reddit, reacted to the video, saying it was great content.
