Venus Williams and Serena Williams are undoubtedly two of the most loved tennis stars the world has ever seen. In careers close to 3 decades, both the players have received immense love and appreciation throughout the globe. They have not only been two of the best tennis players but have also been a major inspiration for youngsters.

Saniyya Sidney, who played Venus Williams in the movie ‘King Richard’, experienced one of the biggest moments of her life when she met Venus Williams and Serena Williams. The 15-year-old recently attended the PEOPLE & Entertainment Weekly’s red carpet special. Appearing in a gorgeous blue dress, Saniya indulged in a quick chat with the red-carpet hosts Jeremy Parsons and Janine Rubenstein. The three-spoke about a variety of topics while conversing with each other. However, what caught the most attention was Sidney’s elaboration on her first meeting with the Williams sisters, along with her reaction when she got the selection call for the role.
Saniyya’s reaction to being selected to play Venus Williams in King Richard
For months, Saniya has been highly vocal about Venus Williams being her childhood hero. The 15-year-old actor has also addressed Venus as someone she has always looked up to. This time was no different. After introducing Saniyya, the first question thrown by Janine Rubenstein towards Saniyya was to recall the moment she received a call that said she would be playing the role of Venus Williams in a major motion picture.

Not being able to control her excitement, Sidney didn’t take a moment as she exclaimed, “Oh my goodness!” She then went on elaborating on the moment, calling it a dream come true. Further, she explained how she was given the news and her reaction to it. “My agents called me, I was so nervous and excited, and when they told me, I was crying — ’cause I was playing my childhood hero.”

The 15-year-old was talking about her reaction to her getting the role when Jeremy Parsons asked her to elaborate about the incident when Will Smith surprised her and Demi by bringing Venus Williams and Serena Williams on the set of King Richard.

Listening to the question, a highly energetic Saniya took no time to explain the first reaction of her and Demi Singleton, seeing the Williams sisters in front of them. She said, “Oh my gosh, Demi and I … we were just like, ‘Okay, what are we gonna do?'”

She further explained what happened when the on-screen Williams sisters met the real Williams sisters. “It was an amazing experience and we just talked and talked and talked. Those are our big sisters now, which is just crazy to say,” Saniya expressed.

Saniya also revealed that she is still in touch with the Williams sisters, as she went on calling them a part of the family.
