NCAA’s recent proposal of removing marijuana from the list of banned drugs has caused a huge stir in the entire sporting community. Even though no final decision has been made on halting cannabis tests, many prominent figures have reacted to the news. The list also includes the Czech-American tennis legend, Martina Navratilova, as she took to social media to express her approval of the suggestion.
Despite the 59-time Grand Slam winner’s approval, some questions were later raised as fans demanded the prohibition of marijuana as it contains strong residual analgesics. Taking note of the same, Navratilova has now come forward to give an ultimate verdict on drug usage in the sport.

However, the 18-time singles Grand Slam champion had a blunt answer to those assertions as she said that analgesics are legal drugs that distinguish them from performance-enhancing substances. She tweeted, “Oh please. Other analgesics are legal too. It should totally be legal- it is not a performance enhancing drug”

Navratilova also took a stance against United States’ marijuana rules
The Tennis Hall of Famer was previously left infuriated when she found out about the imprisonment of the WNBA star, Brittney Griner. A Russian court sentenced her to prison because of possession of marijuana on her arrival in the country.
Taking note of the incident, Navratilova vented her frustrations towards the marijuana rules of both the US and Russia, as she also brought to light another similar imprisonment story of an American native, Tameka Drummer. The Czech-American tennis legend tweeted, “we should release EVERYBODY who is in prison in US for marijuana with no record whatsoever.”
