Former American tennis player Chris Evert dominated the women’s game for almost two decades. Across the 1970s and 1980s, Evert’s on-court heroics rewarded her with a whopping 18 singles majors. Her majors included 6 US Open titles, which only Serena Williams managed to match.

However, Evert’s personal life was not as smooth as her professional life. She went through several relationships, and unfortunately for her, none of them lasted. In a 2018 appearance on The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast, Evert believed that she needed to change her dating preferences.

Evert Needs a Person Like Serena Williams Found

Chris Evert’s last relationship was with golfer Greg Norman. Prior to Norman, Evert had dated the likes of skier Andy Mill, and tennis professionals John Lloyd and Jimmy Connors. In the podcast, Stubbs told Evert, “The key for you is that you cannot date another athlete ever again. No tennis players, no skiers, no golfers.”

Stubbs added, “We’ve got to get you to New York. We’ve got to introduce you to an accountant or banker”. When Stubbs asked Evert for her opinion on the matter, she replied, “A businessman. I need a nerd.”

Evert went on to say, “I need a smart guy like Serena found. I need smarts, and I need humor, and I need kindness, and I’m happy.”

However, Evert revealed that despite being open to dating, she doesn’t like dating via social media, calling the practice an “invasion of privacy”. In the past, Evert has lauded Williams’ tennis talent, and it seems that Williams’ personal life has inspired her as well.

Why did Evert refer to Serena’s marriage?

In November 2017, Serena married a successful entrepreneur and investor, Alexis Ohanian. A few months prior to their marriage, the couple welcomed their daughter. Since their marriage, things have been smooth sailing for the couple. Serena has also revealed recently that she would like to have another baby with Ohanian.

It’s safe to say that Williams’ relationship with Ohanian has a certain degree of stability, which Evert lacked in her relationships. A reason for that could be the fact that Evert dated athletes whose lives were probably too similar to hers. Dating someone from another background may allow Evert to enjoy a much more stable relationship compared to her previous ones.
