American tennis legend, Serena Williams, is in the last phase of her career. Earlier this month, the 40-year-old, revealed her retirement plans. The former world number 1 has made it clear that the US Open 2022, will be the last tournament she will be gracing as a tennis player.

Over the years, the 40-year-old has earned respect all over the world. Apart from her game, she made connections in business as well as the entertainment industry. The tennis star is a close friend of Meghan Markle. Last year, Markle appeared in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, alongside her husband, Prince Harry. She made some shocking revelations that converted into a controversy later. Serena Williams was quick to come in support of her friend.

Williams was all praise of Markle in her debut episode of Stuart Weitzman’s Shine Series. Supporting her after the bombshell interview, the former world number 1, said,“Meghan is a great person and I think the epitome of strength, the epitome of confidence, the epitome of just selflessness, and the epitome of everything is just her and everything that she’s gone through.”

Further, she lauded the poise and class of her friend.

 “It’s not easy, and you can see from the interview that it wasn’t easy. But she had so much poise and she still had so much class,” she added.

Further, Serena revealed what made her break her silence over the issue.

 “I think it was important for me to say something because I’m tired of sitting back and seeing all this negativity. That’s just not true,” she added.

Serena Williams is all set to hang her racket after this season. After announcing her retirement, the 40-year-old, has appeared twice on the court, losing on both occasions. Playing in her last tournament other than Grand Slam, Serena Williams had a tough match up front. Her first-round opponent, Emma Raducanu, is the defending US Open champion and is among the top tennis players currently.

Doing full justice to her status, the 19-year-old was all over Serena in her opening match. She defeated the 23-time Grand Slam champion in straight sets. After taking the first set 6-4, the Briton was clinical in the second set as she handed a bagel to the American.
