‘Too Many Hours’- Venus Williams Gets Emotional Over a Place Full of Nostalgia

Venus Williams, a seven-time grand slam winner, took a nostalgic trip down the lane. She visited her hometown, Compton, where she grew up. This was the place where the tennis legends, Venus Williams and Serena Williams, spent their initial years practicing tennis for long hours under the aegis of their father, Richard Williams.

With the launch of the movie, ‘King Richard‘, which has been put up for 6 Oscar nominations, Venus decided to visit her hometown. The player took to her YouTube channel and took us around her school, home, and the well-renowned tennis courts where she and Serena Williams started their grind. She went with her elder sister, Isha Price.

The town of Compton is the place where the Williams sisters were brought up and this is the place that started the grind for them. Venus went to her old school and her home. However, the highlight of the day was the trip to the tennis courts. We could see Venus letting all the memories flood in and the effort that she put into that place.

Venus Williams visits the tennis courts of Compton

Venus fell short of words after seeing the courts where she practiced for hours. Memories came flooding back into her mind. She went to Compton park where she practiced diligently for hours with her family. She said, “You can always come back home, but the feeling is, it’s intense”. The player then took us to the courts, “to see where all the swinging started”. Her sister Isha urged her to express her emotions, to which Venus, teary-eyed, replied, “So many hours” and “Too many hours” repeatedly. Her sister joked to make her feel lighter. She said, “I think the hours paid off, “ to which both the sisters laughed in the end. They were appreciative of the improvements, like renovating the courts and making a kid’s section in the court.

Venus Williams is nearing a three-decade-long career starting it as early as 1994. Venus has shown people around the world what sheer resistance and hard work can do. All the hours she put in the court have made her the woman that everyone looks up to. She is a sincere proponent of equal pay for both genders and she has been an inspiration to an entire generation. Venus Williams visited Compton and got emotional over places that shaped her into one of the greatest tennis players of all time.
