Some bonds are meant to be unbreakable, and one such bond exists in the tennis arena as well. It’s none other than Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert, two WTA legends, who even today share a deep connection, having been beside each other through thick and thin. They met each other as rivals and bought up an unmatched, never-seen-before rivalry; they genuinely wanted to bring each other down on the courts. But that’s one part of their story.

As time went on, even after their intense rivalry, the two of them ultimately helped each other through many difficulties, including fighting cancer. While both are candid about their long relationship, the 66-year-old tennis legend recently revealed how she is strongly attached to her once-adversary and now-dear friend, Evert.

Even after putting cancer trauma behind her, the 59-time Grand Slam champion, in a heartfelt interview with Today, reflected on the significant bond that she and Evert cherish together. Even after having a popular on-court rivalry, she talked about how their friendship blossomed to find its own way, and since then, their paths have been similar, or they have been a part of each other’s journey.

She said, “We’ve always been there for each other and emotionally through our you know breakups and whatever. I’ve been to like three marriages ever and two of them were her marriages. So and then she came to mine, so we’ve just been so intertwined.” She also emphasized how their friendship is a real connection that has stood the test of time. Subsequently, it turned out to be a safe space where they could be honest about anything that concerned them, including their perspectives on marriage and life.

Alongside all that, without any hesitation, she also highlighted how they are like twins, even traveling down similar paths from time to time. Nevertheless, earlier this year, after battling against the vagaries of life together for almost 50 years, the Czech-American tennis veteran made an emotional confession and vowed to never leave the 68-year-old tennis star’s side.

When Navratilova dished out an emotional statement regarding her friendship

A few months ago, in an interview with renowned English journalist Piers Morgan, Navratilova revealed how, even after 15 years of being together, she still longs to spend more time with her dear friend. In addition, she also listed how they are still dependent on each other as they make each other better humans altogether.

Subsequently, she also talked about how she believes that both of them will make it to the “sunset together.” Whether it be their fight against cancer or dealing with personal relationship problems or marriages, they are always there for each other, just like a true best friend.
