Andreeva’s remarkable journey at Wimbledon had spectators at the edge of their seats. However, it ended in a cloud of controversy during her fourth-round encounter with Madison Keys. The 16-year-old qualifier received a point penalty for an incident involving her racquet.

Andreeva had been warned for throwing her racquet after losing the second set. She seemed to slip and touch the grass with her hand in the third set when she was chasing a deep ball before her racquet struck the floor. Despite her protests, the umpire gave her a second warning and a penalty point, giving her opponent, Madison Keys, an advantage.

Andreeva argued with the umpire, insisting, “I didn’t throw the racquet, I slid. It’s the wrong decision. I slid and then I fell.” The decision was upheld, and Andreeva left the court very quickly and shook the hand of her opponent, Madison Keys, even after appealing to the umpire with all her might, as reported by BBC.
