Enjoying a dream start to her ideal grass season this year, the 16-year-old up-and-coming tennis starlet Mirra Andreeva’s stars are shining brighter. By overcoming Anastasia Potapova, she advanced to Wimbledon‘s fourth round for the first time in four years. While she is still fairly young on the tennis court, a lot of tennis players believe that her tennis run parallels that of Emma Raducanu, who won a Grand Slam at the US Open two years ago.

Mirra Andreeva on watching 20-year-old Raducanu win a major title

Following her incredible journey to the third round of the French Open, the 102-ranked tennis player has advanced to the fourth round of Wimbledon. Given how she has reached the main draw, can she possibly win a Grand Slam tournament like Raducanu did by winning the US Open in 2021? And in a Press Conference after the third round, she was asked whether she could possibly win a major title just like the Brit.

Andreeva detailed how the 20-year-old stunned the tennis world by achieving the near impossible. She said,  “In 2021, she did amazing. Everyone was impressed. I think she was impressed also. To pass qualies & win a GS at 18 is amazing. But me, I just try to not think about it. I think it’ll disturb me, all these thoughts… I just try to play every match.”

Further, she highlighted how she is focusing on winning the matches, keeping it a little simple for now. But along with that, she also praised Raducanu for achieving such an amazing feat when she was just 18. Along with reaching the fourth round of the tournament, the 16-year-old is stunning everyone and making her way in the most amazing way ever.

Despite the fact that the 16-year-old is considerably younger than the Briton, there have been numerous speculations that she might become the next Raducanu. She was, however, unquestionably the youngest player in the French Open’s third round in the last 20 years. That’s not all either—the Russian tennis player’s French Open run was astonishingly similar to the 20-year-old tennis player’s US Open performance.

Just like the British player, she advanced through qualifying to the main draw without dropping a set in three qualifying and five main draw matches. Unfortunately, Andreeva’s clay court run did not continue long, as she was eliminated in the third round.

And now that she’s doing great at Wimbledon, do you think she’ll be the next Raducanu? Post your comments in the space provided below.
