In many ways, WTA star Ons Jabeur has had one of the most inspiring journeys in the world of tennis. Jabeur, rightfully called the Tunisian trailblazer, is a true pathbreaker in her own right. Against mighty odds, she broke all barriers to reach where she is today. Last, she scripted history by becoming the first-ever Arab tennis player to reach the women’s singles final at a grand slam, as she faced Elena Rybakina for the Wimbledon title at the All England Club.

Not only this – Jabeur has also been a force to reckon with on the WTA tour for a consistent period of time in recent years. Now, she has achieved another feat that cements her legacy as one of the greatest sportspersons to come from the Arab world.

Without a doubt, Ons Jabeur is the perfect flag bearer of the Arab and African countries as far as tennis is concerned. In 2021, she became the first-ever Arab tennis player, male or female, to break into the top 10 of either the WTA or the ATP world rankings. This week, she entered her 100th career week as a top 10 WTA player, creating history yet again as she became the first Arab player to do so.

The official account of Tennis tweeted the following, celebrating Jabeur’s incredible achievement: “100 CAREER WEEKS IN THE TOP 10! 🎉 In 2021, 🇹🇳 @Ons_Jabeur became the first Arab tennis player to reach the Top 10 in either WTA *or* ATP rankings history. This week, the Tunisian trailblazer reaches another milestone—it’s her *ONE HUNDREDTH* career week in the Top 10. 👏”

Jabeur’s consistency on the tour

The Tunisian backed up her Wimbledon performance from last year, as she reached the finals of SW19 this year too – this time, it was Marketa Vondrousova who stood in her way. Unfortunately, she fell short in the end, and her dreams of becoming a grand slam champion were dashed again. After a 4th round defeat at the recently concluded US Open, Ons Jabeur is back in action at the ongoing GDL Open in Mexico.
