She also added that she is in no rush to reclaim her number-one ranking and only wants to work on herself and get her form back by playing the best she can while she pleases her fans at the Asian tournament.

After losing in the quarter-finals of the Japan Open, Iga Swiatek is all set to play her first round at the China Open in Beijing. This is the first time the tournament is taking place in China after the pandemic and all players have a chance to prove themselves once again.

Owing to the same, Swiatek shared during the China Open press conference how losing her ranking as No. 1 has actually helped her. She shared how this has helped her feel like a baggage has been taken off of her and now she can focus on her game.

The 22-year-old added, “I felt like there was some baggage off my shoulders and I could focus more on… getting back to the more peaceful and normal rhythm of practicing. My main goal (in China) is to try and do some stuff differently on the court in terms of technique and tactics to develop as a player and not chase rankings.”

The Polish star also shared how she felt that when she was at number 1, she was chasing somebody her whole life. Now that she was free from it; the former world No. 1 has time to focus on herself and her game.
