The saga involving two-time Grand Slam champion, Simona Halep continues to roll on. Last year, traces of the banned substance ‘roxadustat’ were found in the Romanian star’s drug testing samples and she was provisionally suspended. After months of being sidelined from the sport, the result finally came out about her future, which wasn’t in her favor. Halep received a lengthy four-year ban which might potentially prove to be a career-ending blow for her. Now, Caroline Wozniacki has found herself in the middle of the storm on X (formerly Twitter).
Recently, a journalist shared Wozniacki’s views about Halep. However, after a grievous mistake in the representation of facts, Wozniacki slammed the journalist. Here’s what the Dane had to say regarding the bizarre episode.

Earlier, journalist Jon Wertheim posted the views taken from a parody account in Wozniacki’s name on his official Twitter handle and attributed them to the Dane. Subsequently, the former World Number 1 refuted the claims and cleared the air on this matter.
It’s come to my attention that @jon_wertheim posted, and since deleted, quotes and opinions from me about Martina Hingis and the Halep doping case.

Wozniacki took to Twitter and said, “It’s come to my attention that @jon_wertheim posted, and since deleted, quotes and opinions from me about Martina Hingis and the Halep doping case. To be ABSOLUTELY CLEAR those quotes were NOT from me, but instead were taken from an account on Instagram that pretended to be me, and didn’t have the check mark.”

The Danish star retaliated against Wertheim by hinting at shoddy journalistic practices. She revealed that it was frustrating as the whole episode could have been avoided by taking a simple step like checking the account for a tick mark. But interestingly, while Wozniacki refrained from commenting on Halep’s doping ban, her best friend, Serena Williams, remained far from silent.

The two were strong rivals on the court and with high seedings, often faced each other at the tail end of tournaments. In one such encounter between them, Halep prevailed over Serena. The Romanian clinched her maiden title at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships after defeating the American legend.
In what was a sarcastic dig at Halep after her 4-year doping ban was announced, Serena said, “8 is a better number.” She meant that she could’ve won eight Wimbledon titles – and equalled Margaret Court’s record – if not for Halep that year.

On the other hand, Halep has received a big emotional setback with a lengthy ban that potentially ends her career. Nonetheless, she will appeal against the verdict in Switzerland’s Court for Arbitration for Sports and will be hoping for a miracle to get her ban overturned.
