Poland as a whole was beaming with pride when Iga Swiatek became the first Polish woman to attain the world no.1 slot back in 2022. The country has produced several WTA players, but few have managed to showcase breakthrough results. While Iga Swiatek remains the best hope of her nation, a staggering urge has emerged from a compatriot WTA star’s family.

Robert Radwański, the father of former Polish tennis star Agnieszka Radwańska, recently stepped forward to speak out passionately in support of Iga Świątek. His comments came amidst the challenges Świątek has faced recently, including a brief doping controversy. He stressed the need to get along to protect Świątek, who he believes is the pride of Polish tennis. “Our sport is so weak that we have to defend Iga with all our might. There are so many traps in tennis for both male and female players that it’s hard not to fall into one. We don’t have as many players as, for example, in the US, where if one is suspended, there are five more, and you can just wave your hand. Iga is the pride of our tennis, a top player in the world,” said Radwański, pointing out the unique pressures faced by players in smaller tennis nations.

Radwański also highlighted the fact that protecting Świątek goes beyond individual support. He called for a collective effort within the tennis community to stand by her. “That is why we have to stand up for Iga. Figuratively, we have to build the Holy Trinity Trenches for her and we have to awaken at least industry solidarity for Iga. […] Our sport is becoming weak, defective. That is why we have to stand behind Iga all the more,” he continued.

This response came after Swiatek recently revealed she had received a positive doping test result in September for trimetazidine, a banned substance. However, she proved her innocence by showing the substance was unknowingly consumed with melatonin, which she had been using for years. As a result, she also had to incur a reduced one-month suspension, most of which she has already served.

Despite the controversy, Swiatek still remains a symbol of Polish tennis excellence. She holds several records, including becoming the first Polish woman to win a Grand Slam and achieving the world No. 1 ranking. For Radwański, this legacy is worth protecting, even after all the challenges popping up.

Dinara Safina predicts Karolina Muchova can end Iga Świątek’s French Open dominance

Former world No. 1 Dinara Safina has made a bold prediction for the upcoming 2025 season. She raised serious doubts about Iga Świątek’s chances at Roland Garros in 2025. The three-time Grand Slam finalist shared her predictions in a recent interview with Russian publication Championat. When asked about the winners of next year’s Grand Slam events, Safina tipped Karolina Muchova to dethrone Świątek at the French Open. “Australia — Sinner and Sabalenka. Roland Garros — Zverev and, let it be, Muchova. I don’t think Świątek will win the Grand Slam on clay next year. Wimbledon — Alcaraz or Medvedev for men, Rybakina for girls. US Open — Medvedev or Rublev for men, Sabalenka again for girls,” said Safina.

Świątek’s dominance at the French Open has been extraordinary and this makes Safina’s prediction even more surprising. The Polish star has won four Roland Garros titles, including the last three consecutively, and has solidified herself as the queen of clay. Her massive 35-2 record at the tournament also adds to her massive success on the Parisian courts. However, Safina’s confidence in Muchova acted as a snub to the position that the Pole had created. Although only time can tell if this becomes true, it has certainly sparked debate among tennis fans.
