Venus Williams might be away from the court, but she never ceases to spark headlines with fashionable looks. Especially in terms of flaunting her tennis love. “Tennis never goes out of style—it’s always trending!”, she said last year, talking to Harper’s Bazaar. The seven-time slam queen always makes sure to express her love for the racket sport through designer outfits. Remember how last year she wore Lacoste’s merlot-red tennis look in a skintight long-sleeved collared bodysuit and a bomber jacket? And this year’s Met Gala turned into a perfect opportunity for the 44-year-old to reiterate her tennis obsession while showing her journey in a unique and splendid way. But it wasn’t the only thing that attracted the buzz. Seems like the WTA pro also spilled some beans on her love life in the most subtle way possible!
For the uninitiated, Williams attended the 2025 Met Gala as she graced the red carpet in a stunning attire. This year, the event’s theme was ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ with the dress code being ‘Tailored for You’. However, Venus decided to go with a tennis-inspired look while also embracing her culture. She wore a forest-green dress, by Lacoste, with a polo-style collar. To give a perfect on-court appearance to herself, she donned a pleated skirt. It was short in the front but extended toward the backside into a maxi skirt. She completed the overall look with a green coat and footwear that featured a blend of sneakers and loafers. For hair, she was sporting the iconic silver beads – inspired by her tennis campaigns in the past where she wore them across events.
Undoubtedly, this inevitable look attracted the eyeballs at the 2025 Met Gala. As Williams was posing for the cameras, ET Tonight’s Rachel Smith approached her to ask about the attire. Venus revealed, “We started working on this last year. We knew we were coming, and we put it all together and it’s inspired by Josephine Baker, it’s inspired by André Leon Talley. It’s a nod to my own history and tennis and wearing the beads and tailoring, so I feel like we really just wanted to pay tribute and I think we did it tonight.” But it appears the reporter was interested in something else too. Apparently, she noticed a shiny thing on Venus’ finger.

Lately, engagement rumors have surfaced online regarding Venus’ love life. Especially after her rumored dating history with actor Andrea Preti since mid 2024. So far, she hasn’t given an official update on her relationship. However, she’s been spotted wearing a square-cut diamond ring, reportedly given by Preti, in public appearances. Now at the Met Gala, the ring was spotted once again. ET’s Smith couldn’t help but question her over its details.
“I’m also noticing another little piece of bling. Any news that you would like to share with us?” she asked. Venus replied, “I got all the bling from head to toe.” Rachel tried to put focus back on the ring, saying, “I know, especially on this thing (ring).” Venus expressed gratitude, saying, “Oh, really, thank you.”
The reporter then tried to come straight to the point. Eager to know details on Williams’ engagement, she asked, “Is congratulations in order?” So did Venus actually spill the beans this time on her ring’s rumored connection with Preti? Well, she didn’t deny, but also didn’t confirm anything. She simply said, “It’s always a congratulations.”
While an official news on her personal life is yet to arrive, Williams’ return to tennis is now all but confirmed. But wait, it’s not what you think it is. Get ready to witness her in a brand new role instead.

It’s been more than a year since Venus Williams competed in a WTA event. Her last appearance came during the Miami Open last season. Since then, avid fans have been waiting for her comeback. Few months ago, she was supposed to compete in the Indian Wells. The organizers decided to offer her a wildcard entry. While she won’t be seen in action, Venus will embrace a brand new role of a commentator. Yes, you read it right.
