King Richard is a film based upon the life of Richard Williams, the father and coach of tennis champions Serena and Venus Williams. Also, the Academy Award nominee Will Smith has played the lead role in this biopic. So naturally, the buzz around this movie is palpable. However, Venus Williams has revealed what fans can expect from King Richard, which releases on 19th November 2021.

First and foremost, Richard Williams had a vision for his family, precisely his two daughters Venus and Serena. Accordingly, the film shows the sacrifices, the hard work, the determination, and the contributions he made. Moreover, the Williams sisters believe that Will Smith successfully brought out their father’s character on screen.

Venus Williams on her father’s biopic, King Richard

In an interview with Yahoo Sports, the seven-time Grand Slam shared what the King Richard biopic covers. Also, Venus reflected on the effect of Richard Williams on people.

“‘King Richard’ kind of really covers all the things my dad believed in to create tennis champions. Actually, not just champions in tennis but champions in life,” Venus said.

Furthermore, the four-time Olympic gold medallist explained how people did not understand her father at first. However, Venus added what changed over time.

“My dad has been someone who people didn’t always understand, but there isn’t one person I meet now who doesn’t say, ‘I love your dad!’ It’s so comforting and amazing that people understand that every single thing he did was all for the betterment of his family,” Venus concluded.

The 79-year-old Richard Williams now spends time motivating his granddaughter, Serena Williams’s daughter, Olympia. He also attends tennis practice with his daughter Venus Williams.

When will Venus return to the tennis tour?

Unfortunately, Venus had a disappointing 2021 season and didn’t play any tournament after Chicago Open, including the US Open. However, she is passionate about recovering and returning to the WTA Tour.

But given the 2021 results, the 41-year-old took a big hit in WTA Rankings and fell outside the Top 300. Hence, it would make her Grand Slam journey even more challenging.

Hopefully, Venus will recover fully and receive a wildcard for the Australian Open next year. Until then, fans will wait to see her younger on-screen version in King Richard.
