There has been much happening at the ongoing Wimbledon Championships 2022. After the off-court controversy surrounding the tournament regarding docking off ranking points, the action finally began this week. Fans have been fortunate to witness some eye-catching tennis action thus far in the grass-court Grand Slam tournament. Further, the tournament also saw the return of the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus Williams.

The two had been sidelined for a long time owing to their injuries. While Serena suffered a hamstring injury at Wimbledon last year, Venus was out due to a leg injury. Further, Serena decided to play at Wimbledon this year after receiving a wildcard in singles. On the other hand, Venus teamed up with Andy Murray’s brother, Jamie Murray, to play in mixed doubles. After their first-round match, Venus opened up about her comeback at the tournament.

Venus Williams talks about playing at the Wimbledon Championships 2022

During the post-match interview, the seven-time Grand Slam singles champion revealed her motivation behind her much anticipated comeback. She said, “I had no plan to play. I saw the grass and I got excited (smiling).” She further said that she had initially arrived in London to watch her younger sister play, but then got inspired by Serena and the grass and then asked Jamie Murray to play mixed doubles.

It was a dream start for the pair of Venus and Murray. They were up against the Polish-New Zealand pairing of Alicja Rosolska and Michael Venus. Venus and Murray began the match brightly, breaking their opponent’s serve in the fourth game of the opening set. Eventually, they went on to clinch the first set, 6-3.
