The 2021 docu-drama “King Richard” has been one of the most celebrated films recently. The movie shows the life story of the Venus and Serena Williams being trained by their father, Richard Williams. The film was not only loved by the audiences but also received critical acclaim. 

Even though the movie got high praise worldwide, it was only yesterday that the movie received one of its biggest recognitions. Yesterday, the Oscar awards, commonly known as the Academy Awards, nominated ‘King Richard’ in 6 categories.

Excited about the announcement, former World No. 1 Venus Williams took to Instagram, posting a story about the announcement. She shared the announcement post along with thanking a few of her family members.

Venus Williams shows gratitude towards her family

Williams posted an Instagram story reacting to the announcement. She re-shared the post by the movie’s Instagram account.

The caption of the original post read, This is a moment we won’t forget. Our King Richard family has been nominated by The Academy for 6 awards including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Song.”

Venus shared the post and thanked thanking her sisters, Serena Williams, Isha Price, and Lyndrea Price. She also thanked her nephew, Jair. 

Will Smith received a nomination for his role portraying Richard Williams and so did Aunjanue Ellis, who played Oracene Price, Venus and Serena‘s mother and former coach. Along with them, Beyonce also got nominated for her first Oscar for the original song “Be Alive”.

Venus and Serena will both be exceptionally proud of the film’s achievement, because of their family’s story that it portrays, and because of their role as executive producers of the film.
