Victoria Azarenka Hints at Retirement Following Serena Williams’ Announcement

Victoria Azarenka has not had a very productive season so far. The Belarusian player has not managed to win a single title this year, even though she has performed well on the court. Azarenka turned pro in 2003; so it has been on the WTA tour for close to 20 years. Following Serena Williams’ retirement announcement, the current world no.26 has hinted at her retirement as well.

She took to her Twitter handle and tweeted a cryptic message for her fans. It has left the tennis world speculating about her retirement from the circuit.

Victoria Azarenka hints at her retirement

The Belarusian star strived hard to win a title this year. She put up a good fight too, but has turned up empty handed in almost every tournament. Now, she took to her Twitter and stated just two words, “Announcement tomorrow.”

Azarenka‘s season went from bad to worse when she couldn’t participate in the Wimbledon Championships because of the ban on Russian and Belarusian players. Fans are speculating that she will announce her retirement in the coming days after being active for almost 20 years on the tennis circuit.

The former world no.1 has won two grand slam titles in her career, both at the Australian Open. Apart from that, at the beginning of this year, the player reached the quarter-finals of Adelaide International. Recently at the Citi Open, she reached the quarter-finals. But that has been her best performance of hers in 2022. The player has not reached the further rounds of any tournament that she has played this year.

Azarenka’s struggles this season

The Belarusian star couldn’t participate in the Canadian Open because of an issue with her visa. Following that, she faced a second-round defeat at the hands of the defending US Open champion, Emma Raducanu.

Following Serena Williams’ decision to retire, fans are dreading the same announcement from the two-time Grand Slam champion. If that’s the case, both Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka could play their final grand slam at the US Open, which will commence next week.
