With 2 major titles in her bag, Victoria Azarenka has long been a household name in the women’s circuit. However, the Belarusian tennis star had to fend off various challenges both on and off the court in order to taste success at the highest level. Even during her childhood days, the former world no.1 faced adversity due to the instability and uncertainty in sports in her home country, Belarus. At the tender age of 15, the WTA player was consequently sent to the United States by her parents.
But that didn’t put an end to her struggles as Azarenka lacked resources, which added up to the pressure during her journey in the junior circuit. The 2-time singles Grand Slam champion recently outperformed the 11th-seeded Czech, Barbora Krejčíková on the hard courts of the Cincinnati Open. During her first-round match, Victoria Azarenka showcased a great level of her usual dedication and fighting spirit to clinch the victory in straight sets. Taking note of the same, the former world No. 1 was asked about her extraordinary tenacity, which has often been on display on the court.
In her post-match interview, Azarenka said, “I’m just a fighter. I’ll keep going till I get it right. My mentality has been like this since I was a kid. Growing up not in the greatest conditions, I had to fight for everything, and that really shaped my personality today.”

For the Belarusian tennis star, her childhood adversities have been a motivating force as it has really shaped her personality, both as a person and as a competitor. She added, “I’m grateful for those experiences that helped me to build the character that I have now.”
