Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka has been out of action for quite some time now. The 24-year-old last played in Roland Garros 2022. Her outing in the tournament ended too early with a shock defeat in her first-round match against Amanda Anisimova. Further, she pulled out of the Wimbledon Championships 2022 due to an Achilles injury. However, the 24-year-old is looking forward to making a comeback before the US Open. She took a wildcard entry to play in the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic tournament. Interestingly, the tournament was her first WTA main draw debut back in 2014.

As she confirmed her tournament entry, the official Twitter account of Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic paid tribute to the Japanese star. Later, Osaka also shared the post.

Naomi Osaka recalls her tour debut
The official account of the tournament paid tribute to the four-time major champion by sharing a video of her taking a picture with her idol, Serena Williams. Later, she also quoted the tweet and reminisced about her early days on the tour.

Osaka splits with her coach
Before starting her campaign for the last slam of the year, the 24-year-old has decided to part ways with her coach Wim Fissette. The Belgian joined Osaka back in 2019 and helped her win two Grand Slam titles in his tenure. However, the 24-year-old has been struggling to perform at the expected level this season. She might be looking to make some changes to her coaching staff to regain her form.

After splitting with Osaka, the Belgian took to his Instagram account to write a heartfelt note to his pupil.

“It has been a privilege to coach Naomi since 2019 and see her grow into the champion she has become. She has inspired a whole new generation to fall in love with the game & to speak up for what they believe in and it’s been incredible to play a part in that journey. Thank you, Naomi Osaka. I wish you all the best and looking forward to my next chapter,” he wrote.

Osaka is yet to announce her association with a new coach. With the US Open not too far away now, it will be interesting to see if Osaka can regain her old touch.
