VIDEO: British Tennis Player Goes Out of Her Way to Aid Unwell Ball Boy at Wimbledon Championships 2022

The Wimbledon Championships 2022 is up and underway. After much of the off-court drama, the grass-court Grand Slam tournament got off to a thrilling start with some of the best players in the world eying the illustrious title. The tournament will mark the 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams’ return to competitive action after being away from the sport for around a year due to a hamstring injury.
Further, local fans will witness their stars like Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu battle it out over the next two weeks. During the first day of the tournament, an incident occurred on court 18 involving the British tennis player, Jodie Burrage.

Jodie Burrage’s great act of kindness at Wimbledon Championships 2022
Burrage was up against Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko in the first round of the grass-court Grand Slam tournament. During the start of the second set, the British star spotted an unwell ballboy struggling with an illness. Subsequently, Burrage rushed to the fridge beside the court to bring him some water and one of her energy gels. She even got a packet of Percy Pigs, a brand of British gummy candies, from the crowd to give to the ballboy as he sat on a chair.

Further, talking about the incident after the match, Burrage said, “He just said he was feeling really faint. He couldn’t actually really talk. It was quite distressing to see.”

She went on to add, “He was not in a good spot and I just tried to help as much as possible. I actually had a panic attack once in juniors here, so I’ve been where he is. I kind of know a little bit how he was feeling.”

It was a great act by the British star, setting an example and proving that the sport goes beyond winning and losing.
Disappointing end to Burrage’s campaign
The result of her first-round match against Tsurenko didn’t go in her favor as Burrage bowed out of the Wimbledon Championships 2022 in straight sets. It was a dominating performance by the Ukrainian, who broke her opponent’s serve on four occasions while winning all her service games.

In the next round, Lesia Tsurenko will take on compatriot, Anhelina Kalinina.
