The Russia-born Kazakhstan tennis ace Elena Rybakina recently claimed the greatest record of her career. Rybakina won her first Grand Slam final and brought back her nation a Wimbledon trophy.

However, with her family stuck in Russia, she had no one alongside her to celebrate the achievement. Unfortunately, parents she would have made proud might not be even aware of their daughter’s accomplishment.

Elena Rybakina gets emotional

Rybakina, while addressing the press, stumbled upon the painful question about how it made her feel to not have her parents in the stadium. When asked what her parents’ reaction would be to see her win a Grand Slam, an emotional Rybakina replied, “Probably they are going to be super proud.”

Thereafter, to lighten the mood, she jokingly answered to a reporter, who seemed concerned about her. She said, “You wanted to see emotion.”

She defeated the reigning Madrid Open champion Ons Jabeur in the finals of the Wimbledon Championships. The 2019 Bucharest Open champion out-muscled the Tunisian, who won the first set, 6-3. The Kazakh star clinched the title with a consecutive win of 6-2 in both the second and third sets.

Prominent players defeated by Rybakina during the Wimbledon Championships

Rybakina outclassed some high caliber players to book a match with the world No.2 in the final. She first took down the Canadian tennis ace Bianca Andreescu, who has claimed the career highest ranking of World No.4 and was the 2019 US Open champion in the second round of the tournament. Then she battled past Qinwen Zheng, who was the first player to give a tough fight to World No.1 Iga Swiatek in the French Open.

Following that, she met the former World No.1 and two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep in the semifinals. She defied people’s expectations by outclassing the Romanian star with ease. She got the better of the 2019 Wimbledon champion in straight sets of 6-3, 6-3.
