The tennis community for the last time got to hear, Game, Set and Match, Wozniacki! Even after being out for 2 years, Caroline Wozniacki left no stone unturned in beating Angelique Kerber, who is still an active WTA player.

Just like any other classic Wozniacki-Kerber match, this too started with both the players going neck to neck against each other. The first set started with Wozniacki’s serve. Going strong like before, the Danish faced no difficulty in holding her serve. Going ahead, Kerber showed no mercy either, holding her serve with ease. Not leaving room for error, both players went neck to neck against each other, taking the score to 5-5.

However, holding the serve and taking a 6-5 lead, it was Wozniacki who broke Kerber in the later stage of the set, winning the first set 7-5. A similar scenario was seen in the second set, with Wozniacki winning it 6-4.

Wozniacki vs. Kerber at the professional circuit

Even though the two played an exhibition match yesterday, that wasn’t the case earlier. The two have met a total of 15 times in their career. They first met in 2008 at the Stockholm Open. Being at her peak, the 4th seeded Wozniacki showed no mercy beating Kerber in straight sets. The next meeting between the two happened at the 2011 Copenhagen Open, with Wozniacki again winning in straight sets.

However, after losing two times straight, the German sensation Angelique Kerber was eyeing revenge against the inform Danish. Finally, it was in their third meeting that Kerber got the opportunity. Playing at the 2012 Copenhagen final, the second-seeded Kerber showed an astonishing performance, beating Caroline in straight sets.

Kerber further went on to win the next two matches. The back-and-forth battle continued for 10 years, with the two last playing at the 2018 Eastbourne semifinal. 10 years and 15 meetings later, Angelique Kerber lead the head-to-head race 8-7 against Caroline Wozniacki before their exhibition match.
