Therefore, no tennis fan wants to miss her last dance. From tennis veterans to veterans of politics, Williams’ opening round match witnessed a parade of stars.

Amongst all the big names, a pair of old friends stole the focus. America’s former president, Bill Clinton, was in attendance with an unexpected guest. That is, the s*x therapist, Dr. Ruth Westheimer.

Clinton and Dr. Westheimer, the highlight of Serena Williams’ match

Clinton and Dr. Ruth spent most of the match talking, having laughs and nodding at one another. When the camera focused on them, the commentators had a few things to pitch in. While the seven-time Grand Slam champion John McEnroe was a bit puzzled and asked, “Who knows what they’re talking about?

Chris Evert, the co-analyst, was quite sure of what they were up to. The six-time US Open champion said, “Look at these two, they’re really involved in some sort of… She’s giving him advice.”

They have known each other for quite some time. In fact, according to the Middleton press, Westheimer encouraged Clinton, who was a governor at that time, to run for the presidency.

Speaking about the match, it was nothing less than an emotional roller-coaster for Serena Williams’ fans as she made a grand entry dressed in a pretty star studded black outfit and like her past self; she dominated the match. The former World no.1 took an easy win by thrashing Montenegrin tennis professional Danka Kovinić in straight sets of 6-3 6-3.

When players like Naomi Osaka and defending champion Emma Raducanu packed their bags on the first day of the US Open, the 40-year-old American legend has had a perfect start to her last Grand Slam tournament. Now she has to get past the World No.2 Anett Kontaveit.
