In the ongoing Wimbledon Championships 2022, Sakkari is the fifth seed and began her quest for her maiden Grand Slam title in style. She defeated Zoe Hives of Australia in straight sets to proceed into the next round of the tournament. Following her victory, tennis legend, Martina Navratilova had some useful advice for her.

The 65-year-old is one of the most successful players at Wimbledon, winning an astonishing nine singles titles. During a conversation, she had some useful advice for Sakkari. Navratilova said, “Are we going to see some serve and volley? As a surprise play! Use the slice most of all. Because you know, tennis isn’t just about the shots you want to hit, but about the shots you make the opponent hit that they don’t want to hit. That slice they don’t want to be hitting.”

Yesterday, Nadal matched Navratilova’s record after winning his first-round match against Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina. Nadal notched up his 306th victory at Grand Slam tournaments which equaled Navratilova’s wins in major tournaments during her illustrious career. The Swiss maestro, Roger Federer, who has 369 victories in Grand Slam tournaments, tops the list.

Sakkari to face Viktoriya Tomova next

In the second round of the Wimbledon Championships 2022, the fifth seed will take on Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria. The latter had overcome the challenge of Daria Saville of Australia in the opening round of the tournament.
