Video: Serena Williams’ Reaction to Will Smith’s Emotional Speech Is Priceless

The movie ‘King Richard’ was released in 2021 and it received lots of love from the audiences and viewers. This movie is a story about Richard Williams, the father of Serena and Venus Williams. The film beautifully portrays the enormous role Richard played in the upbringing of his daughters. It encompasses every part of Venus and Serena Williams’ journey up till now and how their father has always been there for them. The movie features Will Smith as Richard Williams and Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton as Venus and Serena respectively.

After its release, the movie received a chain of compliments from critics and audiences. Thereafter, the movie was showered with nominations by awards shows. In fact, it received five nominations for Oscars for a variety of categories.

Will Smith Lifts the Award for Best Actor

Will Smith, the gem of an actor carried his part with utmost brilliance, and the Oscars also acknowledged the same. The 53-year-old received an award for best actor at the 94th Academy Awards. While receiving the award, Smith shared some of his thoughts about Richard by saying, “Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family”. 

 Serena Williams’ Reaction to the Speech

Will Smith’s speech was a rollercoaster ride of emotions not only for him but also for each and everyone associated with the movie. Although most of his speech made people emotional, there were parts in which people chuckled.

“Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams, but love will make you do crazy things.” He added.

Further, he thanked Williams family for letting him become a part of the picturization of such an amazing journey. “I want to say thank you to Venus and Serena and the entire Williams family for entrusting me with your story.” he said.

Serena who was attending the event broke into slight laughter when he drew parallels between himself and Richard Williams during his speech. He expressed that his real personality has traits of a crazy father just as Richard Williams. However, he admitted Richard had fairly enough reasons to act the way he has acted while raising his precious daughters.
