A young Pennsylvanian girl who was practically unknown at the time, in 2002—nearly 20 years ago today—had the chance to perform the song, “America the Beautiful” at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, during the US Open. That girl is none other than one of the most famous personalities of the 21st century, Taylor Swift.
In the video, the young American singer was wearing a black dress and confidently intoned in her beautiful voice. The video shows the journey of the 32-year-old growing in the world of music from an early age before the clip of her singing.
The American songwriter was among the many young singers who passed the preliminary round to compete for an opportunity to perform “America the beautiful” at the Arthur Ashe stadium in front of nearly 24,000 tennis fans.
Taylor Swift once backed Serena Williams in her music video
In the music video ‘The Man,’ the singer supported her fellow countrywomen during one of Serena’s biggest controversies. Serena Williams had a heated argument with her chair umpire in the final of the US Open, back in 2018. The umpire docked a game from Serena during the second set when she called him a “thief”. Later, the 23-time Grand Slam champion accused the umpire of sexism.

The US Open incident between the 23-time Grand Slam champion and the chair umpire was included in Swift’s album. She referenced the altercation via the line, “If I was a man, then I’d be the man.”
