It was the year 1990. Martina Navratilova was in her ninth consecutive final at the Wimbledon Championships. However, on two previous occasions, the tennis legend had lost out to Steffi Graf in the summit clash. This time though, she was up against her compatriot, Zina Garrison in the final. The latter had earlier defeated the top seed, Graf in the semi-finals. Navratilova ended on a positive note this time, as she defeated Garrison to win her ninth Wimbledon title.
By doing so, Navratilova became one of the most successful players in the tournament’s history. The victory also marked her final Grand Slam singles title. A few years back, the tournament honored her by creating a short documentary.
