‘Was Waking up and Crying’- Simona Halep Reveals Most Depressive Part of Her Career

Simona Halep, the Romanian tennis ace, is one of the best tennis players. She has held the ranking of world no.1 for a record period of 64 weeks. She has won 23 titles and also ranks fourth in terms of career prize money.
Although it doesn’t mean she hasn’t been through rough patches, Halep has faced her share of mental and physical hardship. Recently, while speaking about her game, Halep took a small trip down memory lane.

Simona Halep Speaks About Her Struggle

Simona Halep shared how tiring overcoming a mental blockage could be. She spoke about her consecutive Grand Slam final defeat and addressed the effects it had on her. She said, ” I lost another final in the French Open. I was leading the match; it was a most depressive moment for me. For three months I couldn’t be happy, I couldn’t enjoy. Sometimes during sleep, I was waking up crying. I knew I had the chance in my hands. I was like 6-3,6-0 up and I lost the match.”

After three heartbreaking losses in the Grand Slam finals, @Simona_Halep was undeterred and went right back to work.

Further, she revealed how she untangled the situation and said, “I didn’t give up practice. And then I lost another final in January but I was very close. I played very well, so it was not about my game. The opponent was a little bit better in the end, more powerful. Then I really believed that the day will come, so i just kept working. The next Grand Slam I played, I won it.” Thus proving how mentally strong she is.

What’s Halep’s Plan for the Clay

Simona Halep had an impressive run on the hard courts of Indian Wells as she reached the semifinals and lost to the eventual winner, Swiatek. However, she couldn’t extract maximum profit out of her peak form as she had to walk out of the Miami Open owing to a leg injury.

Though she is optimistic about her return in the clay-court season as she said“I am keeping the confidence from my great start to the year and am motivated to do everything to be ready for the clay-court season.
The Former world no.1 has joined hands with Serena Williams’ ex-coach Patrick Mouratoglou for the upcoming season.

Halep is currently practicing under Patrick as she has skipped charleston open, the first clay tournament of this year. Further, she will skip the Fed cup as well. However, the 30 year old will look forward to the French Open and will be willing to secure another French Open title.
