Serena is currently preparing for the Australian Open 2021 by taking part at the Yarra Valley Classic in Melbourne. The 39-year-old champion put up a clinical performance in the first round, and she’s currently getting ready for the second round against Tsvetana Pironkova.

Australian Open’s delay, a blessing in disguise for Serena!
Serena’s 2020 campaign ended prematurely due to an Achilles injury at the French Open. She exited the tournament before her second-round match against Tsvetana Pironkova and withdrew from the remainder of the season due to recovery.
The Achilles tendon injury was a nasty one, and there loomed a possibility that Serena could miss the ‘Happy Slam’ as well, due to the extended recovery period.
However, the current scenario has ideally been established for the 39-year-old due in one way or the other.

“So whew, that was an unwanted blessing, but it was much needed for me,” Williams reflected in the Australian Open’s postponement. “I definitely took that time to recover and to just do the best that I can, and now it’s a lot better.
“It was great for me because I needed the time because I couldn’t practice because of my Achilles. I needed every time – I don’t think I would have been here if it was during the regular season,” she further added.
