Jelena Dokic is a popular face in international tennis. The Australian tennis player has a career-high ranking of world no.4. To add to it, she works as a coach and a commentator even after her retirement. It appears that even the sweetest people have haters. And so does Jelena.

Dokic revealed a horrific Instagram comment that she received for apparently no reason at all. The comment is in Serbian and loosely translates to, “NOW THAT THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN IS STARTING WILL JELENA DOKIC TRY TO KILL HERSELF LIKE SHE DOES EVERY YEAR”.

Jelena posted the comment targeting the user behind it. She is infuriated at the harassment and says she cried after she read the hurtful comment. She has stated her argument in figures, “Almost 1 million people commit suicide in the world every year…What kind of a person can write something like this and then even worse laugh about it?”

While Jelena’s fans openly criticized the troll for the outrageous comment, ex-American tennis player Ashley Harkleroad stood by her as she wrote using her Instagram account, “Ew what a gross, disturbing, disgusting, idiotic person. Who would write this! I love that you posted them, I would have left their handle up tho. That way we can all bully them for you.”

Ashley’s support comes at a very vulnerable time for Jelena. Both Jelena and Ashley’s fans are delighted with her vocal stance against the thoughtless behavior of the internet troll. Ashley, once again, proves that being bold is a choice.

Jelena’s inspiring mental health journey

Jelena talked to her followers on Instagram last year about her suicidal thoughts. The news instantly went viral and encouraged many strugglers to speak up and seek help. She encouraged all her fans to reach out to people they think might be at risk. According to Dokic, she just wanted the pain to stop. Recently, she has separated from her long-term companion Tim Bikic.

However, one great thing that has always remained constant for Jelena is the love and support of her fans. It is definitely a silver lining through any and every dark cloud she encounters!
