Serena Williams was a fashionista even when she was young

The former world no. 1 did not just reign the tennis court. Her fashion sense both on and off the court made her the fashion icon of tennis. And the roots of this fashionista go back to her childhood when Williams did not spare her outfits even after not having enough money to have proper tennis clothes.

Serena Williams stated in her autobiography, ‘On the Line’, “When I look back and see how far I’ve come—how far we’ve all come, really.” She then detailed what her sister remembered. Williams stated, “My sister Isha even remembers what I was wearing: a white tennis skirt, with gathers in the middle, decorated with pink, gray, and purple flowers; my hair braided in cornrows and bunched in a ponytail at the top of my head.”

Using this as her reference, she stated, “Even then, I was styling. We didn’t have money for proper tennis clothes, but I wanted to look good.”

Money did not become a hurdle for Williams’ passion for fashion. She improvised with whatever she had and presented herself as the fashion icon she is even now.

Williams does not have any fashion regrets

In a podcast with Vogue, Serena Williams confessed she does not have any fashion regrets. She confessed she wore what represented that time perfectly and even though some outfits were cringe, she really does not mind them at all.
