Despite their intriguing rivalry, the respect and friendship between the two players were immense. Recently, Evert talked about an incident with Navratilova before the French Open final.

Chris Evert on the camaraderie between players during her playing days

During the recent episode of the Fantastic Tennis podcast, Evert gave the example of her friendship with Navratilova to explain the camaraderie between players during her playing career. She said, “What I remember about those years early in the mid-70s was that there was a lot of camaraderie. Because we were building the Tour and we were the ones selling the Tour.”

Further, she went on to add, “So everybody stuck together and everybody got along and I’ll just tell the story about the French Open when Martina and I played in the finals. The locker room had cleared out because it was the finals and we looked at each other and were like, Martina and I practiced before the final and then we ate lunch together and I remember we had roasted chicken and mashed potatoes.”

Concluding her remarks, Evert said, “We ate lunch together, we played our final. We went to press and then took a flight out of there together.”

Evert has a nickname for Roger Federer’s wife

Recently, the American legend took to Twitter to share a nickname for Mirka, Federer’s wife. Evert tweeted, “The ROCK,” reacting to a picture of Mirka consoling Federer after his retirement.

Last month, the Swiss maestro played the last match of his illustrious tennis at the Laver Cup. He teamed up with Rafael Nadal to play doubles at the tournament. However, his career ended on a losing note, as the duo lost out to Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock.
