Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champion, suffered a hamstring injury in the 2021 Wimbledon Championship, something that has kept her out of the tour. Now, after almost a year, Williams is ready to grace the tennis courts again at the upcoming Wimbledon Championship.

With the 40-year-old silencing the rumors of her retirement, her former coach, Rick Macci, took to Twitter to express his happiness.

Macci, the world-renowned American tennis coach wrote, “Where there is a WILL -IAMS there is a way. Good luck SERENA!”

Macci has always had trust in the Williams’ sister. In fact, the coach of five World No.1s traveled to Crompton to train two teenage girls. Further, Richard Williams’ unique ways of training his daughters was also a reason behind his decision.

What are Williams’ plans?

The former World No.1 has enrolled herself for the upcoming Grand Slam. But before jumping into the fierce competition, she is planning to oil her skills. Therefore, the seven times Wimbledon champion will take part in the grass-based WTA 500 event at Eastbourne.

A week prior to the major tournament, Serena will compete in the doubles category alongside the Tunisian No.1 and 2022 Madrid Open champion, Ons Jabeur, in the Eastbourne International. Further, this will be Serena’s third appearance in the event, first being a quarterfinal run in 1998 followed by an early exit in 2011.

However, both the tournaments will not profit Williams in terms of her ranking, as they do not carry any ranking points. Though, if the American survives the first two rounds of Wimbledon, she will reach the unique milestone of 100 victories at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
