Coco Gauff’s 2024 season ended on a high note after a tough mid-season. Clinching three titles at the WTA Finals, Beijing, and Auckland, the star rose to third in the WTA rankings. While she’s yet to showcase her full potential in the next season, she’s taking some well-deserved time off now. Earlier this year, the American sensation moved out of her parents’ house into an independent apartment, embracing solo adulting and creating her own space. However, when she’s not lounging at home, she’s often seen spending time with her family.

Having lived in the Atlanta area until the Gauff family moved back to Delray Beach when Coco was seven, she has a large and supportive family that she cherishes. The love and encouragement she receives from them during tough times on tour are invaluable. So, who are these key figures in Coco’s life?

Who are Coco’s fellow athletic cousins?

Gauff’s family is a vibrant tapestry of athletic talent. Her father, Corey Gauff, played college basketball at Georgia State University, while her mother, Candi Gauff, excelled in track and field at Florida State University. This legacy extends to Coco’s cousins, the Lowe sisters—Cassidy and Courtney—who have made their mark in basketball. This week marks an exciting reunion as the Lowe sisters prepare to face off against each other for the first time since their Boca Raton youth leagues and Coco hopes to attend their match!

Cassidy, now 21 and a standout at Dillard High School, is averaging 15 points and 8.5 rebounds per game this season while stepping into a leadership role. Meanwhile, Courtney is navigating her freshman year at Talladega College, adjusting to the faster pace of college basketball.

Despite their different sports paths—Coco in tennis and the Lowes in basketball—the bond remains strong. Cassidy admires Coco’s dedication and work ethic, which has inspired her own leadership on the court. As they come together during the holiday season for family outings in Florida, the Lowe/Gauff clan continues to support each other’s athletic endeavors, celebrating both individual achievements and shared memories from childhood games. Cassidy noted about Coco, “I’ve known her my whole life. She’s always been a great person to be around… her career is really growing.”

Coco isn’t the only athletic star with a milestone in the family!

Just days before the Australian Open, Courtney Lowe achieved a significant milestone by scoring her 1,000th career point during a road game in Delray Beach. The Boca Raton High School small forward lit up the court, leading her team to a dominant 64-38 victory over Atlantic High. With just 2:30 left in the game and sitting on 999 points, Courtney’s family—including Coco’s grandmother and brother—cheered from the stands, urging her to secure that final point.

Courtney didn’t disappoint; she sank a 3-pointer on the next possession, finishing with an impressive 22 points and a total of 1,005. “It’s definitely an accomplishment — I’ll be remembered at Boca High now,” she said with pride. “Coco will definitely be proud. She might even post my picture on her Instagram.” As both cousins continue to shine in their respective sports, it’s clear that the Gauff-Lowe family is filled with talent and determination.

The American star spends the holidays with all her relatives

Coco kicked off her holiday festivities by hosting her first-ever “Cousins/Friendsgiving,” where she proudly shared a photo of a delicious food spread on Instagram: “Everyone made something.” Among her culinary contributions was sweet potato pie—her debut baking this classic dish! The celebrations continued as she expressed excitement for “Cousinsgiving!!!” at her new home, highlighting how cousin brothers Cameron and Zabian brought cornbread and cucumber salad while cousin sisters Yenice and Deja contributed brownies, mashed potatoes with gravy, and collard greens.

A heartwarming moment featured Coco’s grandfather Eddie Odom. Known for promoting sports accessibility for young athletes in their community, he has played a crucial role throughout his life. Coco shared a selfie with him captioned “granddad💜,” showcasing their special bond. After an evening filled with cooking and laughter, Coco wrapped up Thanksgiving preparations by baking more sweet potato pies late into the night.

As holiday celebrations unfolded, Coco captured joyful moments of family dancing and singing karaoke—emphasizing that “family over everything❤️.” Exhausted yet elated from the day’s activities, she shared a video of herself dancing with cousins while humorously noting it was time for sleep. With these joyful experiences behind her, Gauff is set to enter the 2025 season recharged and ready to showcase her skills under new coach Matt Daly.
