With one WTA singles title and a current world No. 27 ranking, Marta Kostyuk has established herself as a household figure in the tennis community. However, the Ukrainian tennis star isn’t the only one in her family who has garnered significant public attention owing to her on-court exploits. Even her younger sister, Mariya Kostyuk, pulled off several stellar performances during her collegiate days in America.
Mariya, the younger sister of Marta Kostyuk, played tennis for Chicago State University and Southeast Missouri State University throughout her academic journey. During the 2016–17 season in the NCAA community, the Ukrainian was named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after she secured an undefeated run in a week in the singles category. Not only did she rank second in singles, but she also had a 17-17 record in singles, which included a flawless 6-0 record.
She had a season record of 11-8 in the singles category, including a 6-2 record in dual matches, and she also had a five-match victory streak during what was perhaps her best season. Even in the doubles category, Mariya recorded an 18–15 record, and she posted a win at No. 1 doubles in the Green Bay tournament with her junior partner Leshia Gadacz. While her one sister was a well-known figure in the NCAA community, Marta’s other sister previously donned the coach’s hat for her during the 2023 Citi Open.

Notably, in the post-match on-court interview, Marta was jokingly asked if her little sister was getting a ‘bonus’ for being her ‘coach’ during her campaign in the tournament. Rennae Stubbs questioned, “Your little sister is here. She’s your coach this week. Is she getting a bonus?”
In her honest response, the former number 26 player said, “She already got some bonuses. She did her nails for the first time in her life.
