‘Who You Surround Yourself With Is Really Important’ – Coco Gauff Talks About Importance of Mental Health

18-year-old American tennis sensation, Coco Gauff has been progressing slowly as a tennis player since making her professional debut in 2018. Although she hasn’t won many WTA titles in her short career, she surely impressed many current and former players. Recently, she had a candid question-and-answer session with Head Tennis. During that session, the American player talked about mental support and its importance.

After a decent Indian Wells and the Miami Open, Coco Gauff is looking forward to the clay-court season. Before that, she answered some important questions about handling stress during a match and why mental support is really necessary. 

“Yeah, I think who you surround yourself with is really important and obviously if you are around positive people then, you know 9 times out of 10 you are gonna be pretty positive and I think that’s really important,” Gauff said when asked about the importance of mental support.

Notably, Gauff has been playing a limited amount of tournaments on the tour right now. Since she is really young, her near and dear ones are taking care of her mental and physical health. Also, her father, Corey Gauff, is currently coaching her. 

Coco is getting ready to play on the red soil 

After making her Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon in 2019, Coco got a lot of attention. That year, she stunned everyone by reaching the round of 16. Since then, her performances in the Grand Slam events haven’t been overly great.

In 2021, Coco achieved her best Grand Slam result by reaching the quarter-final of the French Open. So, this year will be a great opportunity for the young American player to better her performance from last year. 

In any case, her form leading up to the French Open is concerning. Earlier, at the Australian Open, she lost in the first round. In Indian Wells, she lost in the round of 32 and she reached only the round of 16 at the Miami Open. Meanwhile, she has been doing some great work in doubles matches. Earlier, she won the doubles tournament in Qatar with her fellow American Jessica Pegula. Recently, she reached the semi-final as well in the Miami Open with Catherine McNally.
