Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula to not play the Billie Jean King Cup

For the past few weeks, there have been a lot of debates and discussions in the tennis world regarding the schedule of the WTA Finals and the BJK Cup. This all started when Team USA revealed the news that both the top Americans wouldn’t be seen participating in the tournament.

According to the Palm Beach Report, Gauff and Pegula chose to leave the tournament because of their choice to participate in the year-end championship. While both of them made it to the semi-finals, the 29-year-old American tennis star lost to Iga Swiatek in the finals of the tournament.

As a result, leaving very little time for rest or team training for American players, they made a decision to choose between the tournaments. At present, the team consists of Madison Keys, Sofia Kenin, Sloane Stephens, and Danielle Collins. Apparently, having no time between both tournaments created chaos, because of which they opted out of one of them and chose to be a contender in the WTA Finals.

Indeed, the tennis event in Cancun ended on the 6th of November, and the team event, on the other hand, began the next day itself, which was the 7th of November. But the biggest question is: are the two American tennis stars done for the season, or do they have any more tennis to play in 2023?

Are Gauff and Pegula done for the 2023 season?

While Gauff and Pegula made it to the semi-finals and finals, respectively, they won’t be seen playing any other tournament in the last 2 months of the year. According to Tennis World, the 19-year-old talked about how she will focus on improving her game in the off-season after participating in the year-end championship.

On the other hand, Pegula has not announced her participation in any other tournament since her Billie Jean King Cup withdrawal. So it won’t be wrong to say that they are ending their season here to recoup the year for what’s coming next in the future after playing continuous matches in both singles and doubles categories.

Nevertheless, what do you think about Gauff and Pegula’s decision? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
