Over time, professionals in almost every field gain both experience and wisdom. With that wisdom comes the desire for one to share their thoughts with the rest of the world. However, everyone may not agree with the advice and interpretations related to those experiences. And it is the same in the tennis world as well. Naomi Osaka‘s ex-coach, Sascha Bajin, is one such individual. A recent interview with Patrick Mouratoglou, Serena Williams‘ former coach, has garnered mixed reactions from fans and pundits. In the interview, he makes several comments about his time with Williams and his philosophy behind coaching champions, which many, including Sascha, don’t agree with.
Sascha Bajin worked with Naomi Osaka for a little over a year. But in that time span, Osaka won two grand slams, including her first US Open title against Serena Williams. However, the two split a few weeks after her Australian Open triumph. The German coach has also worked as a hitting partner for Caroline Wozniacki and Serena Williams.

During the interview, he said, “I believe there is players who would benefit on focusing on themselves rather then the opponent…Also some people have it easier to focus on tactics, some on some technical things and some on something mental…”
Sascha did not agree with Patrick’s piece of advice. According to him, players should focus on themselves since they might perceive the match as more important than their opponent. In addition, all players have different mindsets, with some being able to focus better on tactics, some on technical and so on. Therefore, Sascha believes that there isn’t one specific thing players should focus on.
