Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian have always been the ultimate power couple. Ever since their wedding on November 16, 2017, Ohanian has shown up for his wife in more ways than one. Remember when Williams returned to tennis after a tough maternity break? Ohanian went all out, commissioning billboards in Palm Springs to welcome her back to the game. That’s not all. In the 2021 Australian Open quarterfinals, he showed up wearing a t-shirt that read “GREATEST FEMALE ATHLETE”—with the word female crossed out. Now, as the 23-time Grand Slam champion continues to add new achievements to her already long list, her biggest cheerleader is still right beside her.
This year, the 43-year-old tennis icon was named one of TIME magazine’s ‘Most Influential People of 2025.’ Not only that, she was also featured on one of the magazine’s covers. Other big names on the covers included Snoop Dogg, Demi Moore, Ed Sheeran, and Demis Hassabis.
Sharing the moment with her followers, Serena posted pictures from the shoot on Instagram. In her caption, she wrote, “@TIME’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in the world is out. I’m honored to be a part of this group.” And of course, Alexis Ohanian wasted no time dropping a reaction. He slid into the comments with a simple, supportive three-word message: “You know it!”

But let’s be honest—it’s never a one-way street. Relationships are about balance. And just like Alexis has been Serena’s rock, she’s done the same for him. Recently, Ohanian opened up about their relationship on the ‘Thanalysis Show’ podcast hosted by Thanasis Antetokounmpo. Talking about his early days, he called himself a “random kid” who eventually rose to recognition after co-founding Reddit. But what stood out was how he talked about Serena’s support during his journey.
“Obviously at some point, I start talking to my wife. Then obviously we get engaged, we get married. And then, more and more people are like, ‘Oh hey, like, say ‘hi’ to Serena for me.’ One conversation I’ve never had to have in this relationship has been defending or justifying why I need to do something for my career. I still want to be a better partner. I want to be a better dad and be the best at what I do. And she understands that better than anybody,” Ohanian said.
That’s the kind of mutual understanding most people dream of. And it doesn’t bother him at all when people call him “Serena Williams’ husband.” He owns it like a badge of honor.
What’s your perspective on:
Is being known as 'Serena's husband' a badge of honor or a disservice to Alexis Ohanian's success?

Alexis Ohanian co-founded Reddit in 2005 with Steve Huffman after graduating from the University of Virginia. Since then, he’s invested in over seventy tech startups, funded names like Cruise, Instacart, and Opendoor, and even become a champion of women’s sports. Still, he’s often simply known as Serena Williams’ husband—and he’s okay with that.

In December 2024, someone on X pointed out how ESPN referred to him in a headline as “Serena’s husband gifts donation to UVA Women.” The user wasn’t too happy with the phrasing and shared, “I’m sure @alexisohanian doesn’t mind being referred to as “Serena’s husband” but come onnnnnn ESPN. Really??? A L E X I S O H A N I A N I get that she’s the GOAT & all lol. But the man is also extremely accomplished & highly successful in his own right 👏🏼 😅.”
The 41-year-old had a cheeky reply ready and wrote, “Hehe Reddit cofounder and/or @weareangelcity founding control owner just doesn’t have the same clickthru-rate, eh?”
It’s not the first time he’s responded like this. In 2021, he retweeted a post from The Gist USA, where he was again called “Serena Williams’ husband.” A user replied, “I love how you don’t mind that they call you Serena William’s husband.” Ohanian’s reply was on point as he said, “I’ll be a self-made billionaire one day and most people will still know me as Serena’s husband (or Olympia’s dad) and that’s fine by me.”
