It’s no secret that Coco Gauff is a huge movie buff! She’s been raving for years about her obsession with the Marvel franchise and even channels Spider-Man’s energy in her tennis career and workouts. After matches, her celebrations often include visiting movie theaters around the world while on tour. She’s also known for her witty film commentary, like when she gave Inception a second watch and shared her thoughts on social media. Need I say more? If Gauff loves films, she’s clearly an aficionado of the best. Her latest favorite is the new release Sinners starring Michael B. Jordan! Can you guess how much she enjoyed it?

If you follow her Instagram and X profiles, you might have seen her mention watching Sinners on April 24. The catch? She couldn’t sit with her dad because the theater in Madrid was packed! She tweeted, “sinners is fire! my theater in Madrid was packed ! my dad and I couldn’t even sit together, not complaining I‘m a movie theater lover and it’s good to see theaters packed out again!” And if you think she only saw it once, think again. After her Madrid Open win on May 2, she posted on IG Story, “2nd time around is even better… lolll who tryna see it again with me in Rome.”

When asked what makes the film stand out, Coco Gauff couldn’t hide her fangirl excitement. At the Italian Open pre-tournament press conference, she asked reporters if they’d seen it and why they weren’t as hyped. She said, “I thought it was great. I just like the symbolism in it. The music was, I’m literally been listening to the centre soundtrack pre-match and obviously it’s not a soundtrack you probably should listen to before you go on court. But I just love it. I probably will see it again.” Thrice for good luck, perhaps!

If you haven’t seen Sinners yet, it’s a 2025 horror film directed by Ryan Coogler. It follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack (both played by Michael B. Jordan) who return to their Mississippi hometown in 1932 and face a supernatural evil. The film also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, and Wunmi Mosaku. It blends horror with themes of community and race in the Jim Crow South. Gauff was so impressed she boosted its ranking on her Letterboxd, saying, “I put it on my top four movies on letterbox. So, I don’t take that lightly.”

Interestingly, the film might have motivated her recent tennis resurgence. It lines up perfectly with her deep run at the Madrid Open, where after weeks of early exits. She reached her first final of the season against Aryna Sabalenka. While she didn’t win the title, it’s a step forward!

Coming back to her off court activities, Gauff’s love for movies goes beyond watching. She also hopes to start a film production house one day!

Coco expresses her dream to channel her inner movie buff into a business!

On April 9, Coco Gauff shared a fun Instagram reel with Con Los González de Tour, answering lighthearted questions about her life. When asked about her favorite movies, she said, “I like ‘Interstellar,’ ‘Aftersun,’ I’m a huge Marvel fan so I like ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.’” Last year, she raved about Interstellar on her IG story, calling it “amazing” and writing, “just watched this for the first time today… amazing movie.” Clearly, her love for films runs deep!

When the conversation turned to her future dreams, Gauff revealed an exciting plan: “I would love to maybe create my own brand one day. Whether that’s in film production or beauty. But preferably something in the production side of things. I think I would like to do that!” This hints at a future where she blends her passion for movies with entrepreneurship, stepping beyond the tennis court into creative ventures.

Her flair for mixing personal passions with business really shines through her sneaker game. Her New Balance CG2 shoes draw inspiration from basketball-a nod to her dad Corey’s wish for her to play the sport. She joked about it, saying, “My dad played basketball, and he always wanted me to play basketball, and he put me in unwillingly.” That basketball influence makes her signature shoe stand out on the tennis court.
