The world has turned its back on Will Smith, the Academy award-winning actor. He got an Oscar for playing the role of the father of Venus and Serena Williams, Richard Williams. But what he also got was a lot of criticism for slapping the host at the Academy award, Chris Rock.

The backlash has been harsh and blunt and people have been keen to know the Williams family’s stance on the incident. And finally, Richard Williams had to say about the incident.

Richard Williams opens up about his stance toward Will Smith

It might have been a moment full of disdain for a lot of people around the world. However, Richard Williams does not quite agree. He favors Will Smith and was not hostile towards his actions at the Academy Awards.

In an interview with The U.S. Sun, he said, “I think that whatever he (Will) wants to do, that’s what he should do.” With a chuckle, he said, “People are going to think what they want to think.” Taking Smith’s side, he stated, “If he apologized [that’s good], however, he wants to deal with the situation. I wouldn’t judge anyone.” 

Furthermore, he said, “They should let him keep his Oscar, too. When a person (has) worked for (it) so much, then leave it alone.” He agreed to have a soft corner for the actor and stated, “I really appreciate him doing so very much so I could never criticize him.” Father of Venus and Serena Williams did not like the 10-year ban from the Academy and added, “just two days, that’s enough, that’s very much.”

The movie portrayed the role of Richard Williams in shaping the foundational years of his daughters. He was their first coach and guided them in the initial phase of their careers too.

Serena And Venus Williams did not give their approval right away

The two sisters were the designated executive producers of the movie. And they had played a major role in dictating things the way they had happened for an honest portrayal of the movie.

But when Will Smith knew that Williams sisters were watching the movie during the screening, he was very nervous. He stated it to be the worst two years of his life.
