American tennis legend Serena Williams is great friends with former Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki. Unlike the former tennis greats, who rarely made friends on the tour, Serena and Wozniacki have an exemplary bonding. The two have always backed each other and their friendship grew over time.

However, tennis is a cruel game that can get into one’s head at times, especially when a player loses a game. In that zone, players sometimes end up hating their opponents. Serena and Wozniacki played one such match in Singapore. It was a testing match as both played some quality tennis. In the end, Serena won the match. Wozniacki was disappointed after losing. However, a beautiful gesture from Serena changed her mood. Here’s what happened.

When Serena’s cute gesture strengthened her friendship with Caroline Wozniacki

It was a brutal match, and Wozniacki was sad after losing an important one. After the game, Williams slipped a note into Wozniacki’s bag, a drawing of an eye and a heart. She also said she was sorry. Recalling the incident, Wozniacki said, “So when Serena came into the locker room and said, ‘I’m sorry,’ I was mad and said, ‘Will you retire?’ But then I got the note, and it was sweet, so I got over it.”

Serena recently played her last tournament and Wozniacki was also present in the Arthur Ashe stadium alongside Serena’s husband Alexis Ohanian to support her best friend.

The rivalry between Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki

While Serena is arguably the greatest modern-day tennis star, Wozniacki was also a great player. The stats between the two are contrasting. While Serena has 23 Grand Slam titles to her name, Wozniacki has only one Australian Open title which she won in 2018. Apart from that, she also won the WTA tour finals in the year 2017.

Wozniacki also made it to the final of the US Open twice (2009 and 2014). Interestingly, it was Serena herself who defeated her in the US Open final.
