Tennis queen Serena Williams has been one of the biggest inspirations for young American girls in sports. However, she finds inspiration in the talented 24-year-old American gymnast Simone Biles.

Due to her on and off-the-court substance, Biles got listed in the 2021 Time 100 Most Influential People. For this, the 23-time Grand Slam champion wrote an essay on her.

Primarily, Williams stated that what Biles embodies truly reflects the endless potential of black women. She added, “I wish I had her to look up to when I was younger and trying to realize my dreams.”

Remarkably, Biles pulled out from her 2016 Olympics All-Around gold medal defense in Tokyo, citing mental health issues. Following that, she received enormous support from all around the world.

Serena wrote, “By living her truth so loudly and by championing mental health, she is setting new standards of beauty, strength and resilience, breaking down today’s image-obsessed stereotypes and encouraging others to do the same.”

Furthermore, the 39-year-old American explained how Biles is changing the definition of success. She added, “Simone is a shining example of what success looks like when you let go of what the world thinks and gather your strength from yourself … from your soul.”

Once upon a time, the American gymnast looked up to Serena as her idol. And now, the tennis champion takes an example out of her.

As a world sensation and a professional athlete since a young age, Serena understands Simone more than the most. Hence, their acclamation of each other proves the efforts made behind the curtains.

When will Serena play on the tennis tour?

After getting injured and retiring from the opening round at Wimbledon, Serena also missed the US Open 2021. Thus, she would be aching to be back on the court.

However, the 39-year-old is less than two weeks away from turning 40. Hence, the American might plan her tennis schedule accordingly.

Since the last couple of years, Serena hasn’t been regular on the WTA Tour, but competes at Grand Slams religiously. There is also hope to see her at the Indian Wells tournament in October.
