Athletes often get the short end of the stick for bad performances. German rising WTA star, Eva Lys, recently faced the harsh reality of being popular. In her last match at the Winners Open, Lys lost the match to Tamara Korpatsch. Lys was headed in the right direction and this loss was a bit unexpected in the semi-finals. However, what came next was quite disappointing for tennis fans.

Eva Lys is one of the best players when it comes to youngsters in tennis. Even during her time in the Winners Open, she had an impeccable form. However, it looks like a lot of trolls spewed hate without a second thought. But the others rallied behind her and showed their support.

Lys lost to Tamara in straight sets of 4-6 3-6. It is understandable that people might feel disappointed with her defeat. However, it is still not an excuse in any way to shower her with hate. But unfortunately, that is exactly what happened after her match. Her true fans were quite disgusted when the WTA starlet posted all the hateful comments she has been receiving. 

Eva, in comparison to the hate, also received many heartwarming and encouraging comments. People advised her not to pay any attention. And some comments even described the reality of these trolls, as a fan commented, “My goodness. Truly saddening to see the absolute worst of humanity. So sorry you have to deal with this” 

Words of encouragement are the best. We live in a world where hate and love coexists. However, it’s inspiring to see fans still having their idol’s back. “They’re frustrated people, upset with their lives.  You’re a great woman and then a great tennis player on the rise, enjoy the journey and don’t pay attention to it, your path is brilliant, I hope one day I will see you again.  Blessings”

Fans have also been theorizing that betting could be a major reason why this is happening.

Is betting in sports the real enemy?

Many fans even claim that this is happening because of betting in sports. Since people are losing money they want payback in any form they can get. “It is all because of sports betting, it is not your fault Lys  people develop hatred bcs of losing money.” 

Another comment points out the same issue as it says: “Shame on them degenerate gamblers.”

One comment even states that sports betting should be deemed illegal. “This is why sports betting should be illegal.”

It doesn’t matter why people are hating on one of the up-and-coming stars in WTA. She did her best and maybe she could’ve done better. But that still doesn’t give anyone the right to degrade her with hurtful remarks. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments.
