As mentioned earlier, Evert often called out Donald Trump for his words. This time was no different. Learning about the Tweet, Evert took no time in condemning the then-American president, Trump. Being from a generation having Meryl as their biggest Hollywood star, Evert expeditiously came out in her support. Taking to her Twitter handle, she wrote“NO… Meryl Streep the Greatest actress of all time…. A person with empathy and grace. Someone we all look up to and respect…wrong again.”

The roots of the incident date back to the night before the Tweet; when the world had its eyes on the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where the 74th Golden Globes Award was taking place. While a number of artists were honored for their performance during the prestigious award night, the Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Meryl Streep.

Receiving the award, Streep poured out her heart to thank her fans and the entire entertainment fraternity. However, ahead in her speech, she went on criticizing Trump for an act, which was quoted by many as ‘insensitive’.
