Fans following Evert off the court are aware of her political stance. Even though she hasn’t ever been vocal about her side, her Tweets are often enough to get a clear idea. Scrolling through her Twitter handle, one can see that the 18-time Grand Slam champion often called out former American president Donald Trump for his words. Similar was the case in 2017 when Evert gave it back to Trump over his Twitter rant on legendary actor Meryl Streep.
Chris Evert gives it back to Donald Trump
During his tenure as the president of the United States of America, Donald Trump often made headlines for his unpleasant words and acts, especially on Twitter. Going back in time, in January 2017, he took to his Twitter handle; putting up a Tweet about the award-winning actress, Meryl Streep. “Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a……,” he wrote.
As mentioned earlier, Evert often called out Donald Trump for his words. This time was no different. Learning about the Tweet, Evert took no time in condemning the then-American president, Trump. Being from a generation having Meryl as their biggest Hollywood star, Evert expeditiously came out in her support. Taking to her Twitter handle, she wrote, “NO… Meryl Streep the Greatest actress of all time…. A person with empathy and grace. Someone we all look up to and respect…wrong again.”

The roots of the incident date back to the night before the Tweet; when the world had its eyes on the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where the 74th Golden Globes Award was taking place. While a number of artists were honored for their performance during the prestigious award night, the Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Meryl Streep.

Receiving the award, Streep poured out her heart to thank her fans and the entire entertainment fraternity. However, ahead in her speech, she went on criticizing Trump for an act, which was quoted by many as ‘insensitive’. Days earlier to the award night, Donald Trump allegedly imitated a disabled reporter.
