Emma Raducanu vs Ons Jabeur: Preview

World No. 6 Ons Jabeur will be facing the 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the 2024 Abu Dhabi Open’s second round. When it comes to Jabeur, she started her season at the Australian Open. She skipped the warm-up events, and easily defeated Yulia Starodubtsewa in the first round. However, she suffered a heavy 6-0, 6-2 loss to Mirra Andreeva in the second round. Coming into the event, she got a first-round bye and will now be facing Raducanu in the second round.

Raducanu, on the other hand, played some exceptional tennis in her first match. She overcame Marie Bouzkova in a competitive first set, eventually winning 6-4, 6-1. Raducanu has consistently progressed beyond the first round in all her 2024 tournaments. However, she has not made her way any further than the second round. Could this be the turning point for her?

Prediction: Emma Raducanu needs to bring her best game out to win

Both the players will be looking to give in their everything and make sure that they land a win in their favor. As the patterns suggest, Raducanu has struggled with her serve and forehand in the first half of the first set. However, in the latter half, she improved while dominating the match. Her first-serve points won increased from 59% to 82%, and second-serve points won improved from 27% to 75% in the second set.

Jabeur’s performance hasn’t been great since winning the Ningbo Open last season. After that victory, she couldn’t manage to win two consecutive matches for the rest of the year. Thus, as things stand, Emma Raducanu could stand a chance to lay her hands on glory and make her way into the quarter-finals. However, it is only time that will reveal.
