WTA Dubai 2024: Anna Kalinskaya Proudly Defends Her Skill After Iga Swiatek’s Crude Downplay of Her Talent

Anna Kalinskaya’s recent phenomenal on-court exploits at the ongoing Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships have stunned the entire tennis community. She pulled off a major upset against the current world No. 1 player, Iga Świątek, as she is now one win away from lifting the WTA 1000 trophy. Reflecting on her semifinal victory, the Russian tennis player recently opened up about how the result had more to do with her not giving Swiatek much time or rhythm on the court.
After securing a place in the championship game, Kalinskaya became appreciative of the 4-time singles Grand Slam champion while she offered insight into their encounter in Dubai. In doing so, the current number 40 player also asserted that Pole didn’t commit too many errors, as her win was solely the fruit of her labor.

Defeating Iga Świątek in a latter-stage match is a challenging task. But the Russian player recently made it look easy by overcoming the top-seeded Pole in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, in their semifinal match. Later, Anna Kalinskaya was asked if she thinks that the 4-time singles Grand Slam champion made some mistakes that worked out in her favor. However, the former No. 38 player defended her skill as she talked about her dominating display against Świątek.

In her post-match conference, Kalinskaya said, “I don’t think she has made any mistakes, maybe a few in the second. But I didn’t really give her much time to play and…when you have less time, you have less confidence to hit a good shot, and that’s why, when you’re rushing a player, you don’t play your best shots.”
