Coco Gauff vs. Markéta Vondroušová: Group stage match preview
Justifying her rankings as world No. 3, the American tennis star started the round-robin tournament with a bang. While pulling off a bagel, Coco Gauff thumped her Tunisian opponent, Ons Jabeur, in the first group stage match, 6-0, 6-1. The 19-year-old, though, was unable to repeat her exploits in the following match, as she was defeated 6-0, 7-5, by Iga Świątek, the second seed.
Markéta Vondroušová, on the other hand, has not yet tasted any success at the season-ending championship. The Czech tennis player has faced two consecutive defeats at the WTA Finals, starting with her thumping group stage loss at the hands of the Pole, Świątek, 7-6, 6-0. With another defeat against Ons Jabeur, the reigning Wimbledon champion has now failed to secure a place in the semifinal rounds in Cancun.
